I measure in inches. I double the measurement across the bust, the narrowest part of the waist, and across the hips for those who know their measurements.

If you’re interested in an item, find a similar item in your closet that you know fits you well. Compare those measurements with the item you’re interested in. (Don’t forget to double the measurement across your item’s bust, waist, and hips!)
